Review
A great take a Vampyre tale! The dual perspective and time jumps aren’t confusing and it just adds to what already is a well paced story!
Saying that there isn’t a great deal of background world building going on which I found unusual for the first book of a series and sometimes wished we’d been given a bit more information.  Hopefully this is something that will develop over the series
Overall,  this is a promising start to this new series! The book will keep your attention and reignite your love of vampire stories post Twilight

Curse of Stars

(Diamond Crier #1)
Publication date: February 19th 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Sabi Perez is the last Diamond Crier, only she doesn’t know it. Not until a crazed ruler from another world comes to collect her priceless tears and won’t take no for an answer.
Living in New York, Sabi’s seen some nasty things, but the lengths to which her captor will go to keep his crown are things found only in the darkest nightmares. Afraid and alone, Sabi finds solace in her cellmate, Anya, and Cabal, a fellow Crier who also has powers, a rare combination that buys his favor from the ruler. Only it’s a favor he doesn’t want.
In a fit of rage, power erupts out of Sabi, the same power Cabal has, and a spark of hope ignites. Together they may have a chance at escape, something no other Crier has done. Except a ruler hellbent on draining them of every last diamond tear isn’t their only hurdle. If they escape they’ll be hunted to the ends of the earth, if they survive the trek to safety. If they stay the ruler will leech them dry. Sabi would rather die trying than lie down and die, even if that means running away into even more danger.

Review
If you are generally feeling low at the moment then this book is not one for you.  It is not a “it’ll turn out all right in the end” kind of story!
It has a breakneck pace with plenty of action but not much background filler! So if you love an action packed story then this is for you
I felt it was a tell it like it is kind of story.  It didn’t give you hope when there was none to be found and as weird as it sounds it was refreshingly dark which is something unusual for a YA book
I’d recommend this book if you are looking for an edgier read than the genre usually offers
and as usual it has an amazing cover!!

Author Bio:
Donna has been writing since she was in the single digits when she first realized she needed to do something about all the thoughts in her head. After a stint with bad poetry she finally found her way to novels, mainly of the young adult fantasy variety. When she’s not cranking out more stories she works a regular 9 to 5, reads anywhere from 2 to 3 books a week, drinks copious amounts of tea, eats way too much, and makes her own beauty products because her skin turns into a sentient hive if she uses anything else. This is mostly because she lives in the desert where the air siphons water clean out of her. She lives with a man named Steve and several quadrupeds: three cats named Renfield, Sam, and Dean; and a MinPin named Malfoy.

Blitz: The Fairytale of Chicago

About the Book

ftalechicago-cover-imageTitle: The Fairytale Chicago of Francesca Finnegan
Author: Steve Wiley
Genre: Fantasy
“Did you know most anything that matters in this city was built by magic before it was built by men? Of course you didn’t. This city is different from other cities. The true history of it is unpublished. Lucky for you, I know it all by heart.”
~ Francesca Finnegan

In Chicago, a secret L train runs through the mythical East Side of the city. On that train, you’ll find a house-cat conductor, an alcoholic elf, a queen of the last city farm, the most curious wind, and an exceptional girl by the name of Francesca Finnegan.
When we first encounter Richard K. Lyons, he is a man who has long forgotten the one night, when he was still a boy called Rich, when Francesca invited him aboard the secret L for an adventure though the East Side. The night was a mad epic, complete with gravity-defying first kisses, mermaid overdoses, and princess rescues. Unfortunately for Rich, the night ended like one of those elusive dreams forgotten the moment you wake. Now, Rich is all grown up and out of childish adventures, an adult whose life is on the verge of ruin. It will take the rediscovery of his exploits with Francesca, and a reacquaintance with the boy he once was, to save him.

Blitz: Holdfast by Kate Carter

Holdfast
Kate Carter
Publication date: December 14th 2016
Genres: Science Fiction, Thriller, Young Adult

Once they’d do anything to keep her safe. Now they’ll do anything to kill her.
The discovery of a genetically twisted corpse on her latest stepfather’s ranch in the Badlands of Forsaken triggers a desperate and brutal race against time for eighteen-year-old con artist Ariel Tesla when her loving stepbrothers are turned into monstrous killers with a single purpose: to hunt Ariel down and destroy her.
Running for her life, the one person she can turn to for help is the last person in the galaxy she can trust, former mark Hale Carrow. She needs a ship to get off the planet, fast; he wants revenge on the girl who broke his heart.
To save the family she never thought she wanted, she’s going to have to gamble on the boy she betrayed, or no-one’s life will ever be the same.
And hers will be over.

EXCERPT:

The human body can only handle so much stress. Ariel knew how this went. If she stopped, she wouldn’t be able to start again. She’d crash, and then she’d be at the mercy of anyone or anything that came along. Despite the danger of stopping, she found her steps slowing. It wasn’t, however, the exhausted halt she battled with every step, nor the jagged, stumbling, end-of-the-line finish she yearned for. It was a graceful, taut arrest of movement, up on the balls of her feet, body quivering, nerves screaming.
The mech shed was in sight, a shade beyond comfortable sprinting distance, dead ahead. She was out in the open, visible from every angle. Flat land stretched around her, rising to bluffs ahead and to her left. She turned, poised and scanning, all exhaustion forgotten.
A full circle sweep. Nothing. She stared over at the bluffs and jumped with a punch of sudden shock when a group of ferrokirrim broke over the ridge and bounded down the slope, scattering scree. A mother and her almost full-grown cubs, she registered. Heading right for her.
They’d take her down in a second. She’d be dead a second after that. In half an hour, she’d be a memory. She wasn’t ready to be a memory. She wasn’t ready for any of this, damn it. She bent her knees as they thundered her way, all the while thinking, What, are you going to wrestle them? There was nothing on the planet of Forsaken fiercer than a mother looking out for her cubs. Ariel braced.
They ran past her.
They ran right past, giving her a wide berth. She felt the mother’s eyes flick over her, dismiss her, then urge her cubs on with a spine-ruffling grunt.
Ariel straightened slowly, staring after them. They were running away from something.
What in hell would scare off a mother ferrokirrim?
A rock bounced down the scree slope.
Ariel counted the strikes. Three, then silence again. She did not want to turn and see what had knocked it loose. She didn’t have a choice. She turned.

Review: The Poppy Garden by Claire L Brown

Synopsis

What would you do if the love of your life didn’t know who you were?
What if he forgot you?
Forgot the first time you met, your first kiss, the day he proposed and the day you married?
What if six months after your perfect start it was all taken away in the blink of an eye?
Sky Flynn thought she had it all, she was the happiest she’d ever been from the moment she met Nick Robinson until the moment a military officer showed up at her door, then things changed.
Fighting to save her marriage and help her husband recover from both physical and mental scars of war Sky has to find away to cope and overcome.
Inspired by memories of her grandfather and how he channelled his PTSD into his garden she sets out to create somewhere for recovering service men to go, to assist in their recovery and create a place of beauty to share with their families. But will the beauty of the garden heal her husband’s wounds and bring him home to her forever?
Review

This book is a book I will remember for quite some time.
From the first page the author captures my attention with her ability to build a character physically in my mind.  Not just that she made me feel Sky’s range of emotions at having to let Nick go.
When the officer comes to tell her what is probably some of the worst news a person can receive I couldn’t help by cry
Reading how Sky tries to rebuild their life together and how Nick has to relearn how to live with not just his physical injuries but his mental ones to is really harrowing in places
I marvelled at Sky’s tenacity and cried at the injustice of it all and this is down to the authors skill as a story teller.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly and if you are interested to know more then check out Claire’s website where you can learn more about her and her work with The Poppy Garden Appeal; a charity established to fund a recuperation centre for service personnel and their families

Choose carefully.

Interview with Author Summer Lane
How does it feel to publish the 9th installment of the Collapse Series – and your 16th overall?
It feels unreal! When I was a kid, I always pictured myself as an author, sharing my stories with readers, but I admit I didn’t really think that would materialize until I was much older than I am right now. I’ve been really blessed – and I’ve worked really hard!
What’s a typical day in your life like?
I do manage a business, so while I do a lot more than simply write manuscripts, writing certainly is the base of everything that I engage in. I just got a German Shepherd puppy named Kona, and she gets me up early in the morning (earlier than usual, haha!), and I’ll start work then. If I have a good day, I’ll be done with work around 2:30 or 3. If it’s a long day, I’ll be working until 6.
What is State of Hope going to be like – and is it the last book in the series?
State of Hope is going to be long, intense and flushed with adrenaline. There are so many secrets to be revealed, so many character plots to be tied up neatly, and most importantly: Cassidy’s conclusion in this apocalyptic war. While Hope is indeed the final installment in the Collapse Series, it is not the last book in the Collapse universe. I certainly do have some plans for Cassidy in the future – they may not be as huge as Collapse, but trust me: I have plans.
How do you stay motivated and healthy in your career as a writer?
I stay motivated by keeping my eye on the prize: I remove negativity from my life, because nobody needs that. I try to surround myself with people who really care about me and support what I do. Staying healthy, for me, at least, is actually really difficult. My profession requires a lot of sitting, so I have to make an extra effort to get up, walk and move. It’s also tempting to snack on junk food working in an office (am I right?). I try hard to indulge only with healthy snacks: I have celery sticks and apples in the fridge, I like cheese, and any gluten-free cracker in combination. I also just discovered baked parmesan crisps. Oh, my heart!
Advice to aspiring authors?
Don’t let anybody bring you down. Never take no as a final answer. Work hard, and it will pay off, one way or another.

It’s definitely a unique read with part journal entries and part stories of the authors experiences and I like the way this book was set out.

I did it all for you…

As her carefully constructed life begins to crumble, Cara isn’t sure who she is anymore.
But maybe that’s exactly what someone wants her to think…

Review

The synopsis of this story doesn’t really give you a lot to go on apart from the obvious that Cara’s boyfriend is dead!  This intrigued me and I was keen to get reading!
The pace was good and although at times I was frustrated that the story could’ve had a bit more depth and development in places it did keep me turning the pages.  I felt that at the start it was difficult to really get on board with the heroine of the story as to be honest she wasn’t really my cup of tea but if you’re like me don’t let it put you off.
I feel this book is only the start of the story as it definitely sets itself up for a sequel as there feels like a lot of unanswered questions at the end either that or you could totally let your imagination run wild with what happens next

Review
So Echo Campaign picks up from where Omen Operation finishes and right from the start the author expertly pulls you straight back into the story.  You do need to read these books in series I wouldn’t suggest this book as a standalone.
The pace of this book will leave you breathless it is so fast but I for one love a book like that especially one that is as full speed as this one.
I love the way the author cleverly switches from one point of view to another throughout and think this is something that can go so wrong in a story if it makes it hard to keep up but the author really is talented at making sure you know where you are.
All in all I really enjoyed this book as I did the first and can’t wait for the next instalment especially with the introduction of new faces this time round
